Lay Employees
The District is home to a variety of Lay Employees. With a vast array of gifts and ministries, they work in churches, circuits, and for the District itself.
Our Lay Employees make a significant contribution to the life and ministry of the District, using their skills and abilities in a wide variety of roles including pastoral, administrative, communications, hospitality and youth and family work, to engage with and support their church and local community. They are the front-line of the church, often working with those on the fringes of the church family and reaching out with the love of God to those of all faiths and none. For some, particularly for those who have moved away from their own support networks to take up a new appointment, this can sometimes be a lonely role, and while it is important to hold our Lay Employees in our prayers, practical help and encouragement can make a huge difference to their well-being and to their settling in happily in a new area of employment.

A Prayer for our Lay Employees
Loving God, whose Son, Jesus Christ, came to get his hands dirty in all the messiness of a human life, we ask your blessing on the Lay Employees in our District as they reach out, often beyond the walls of our buildings, to share your love and the Good News of Jesus, using the different gifts and skills you have given them. When work is bearing fruit be with them to enhance their joy; in times of frustration give them the patience and encouragement to carry on. And when there seems to be little reward for their efforts, remind them that one seed planted with love is never in vain. Strengthen, sustain, guide and inspire them by your Holy Spirit as they seek to minister in the corner of your kingdom where you have placed them. Amen.
