Rural Ministry

The North West England District is home to a range of rural communities across the whole of our region. Towards the south of our District, we cover parts of the Peak District as well as North Cheshire, and further north is home to places such as the Lake District and the Forest of Bowland.

The Cumbria area currently has 9 volunteer chaplains covering auction marts and agricultural shows throughout Cumbria. Our well recognised chaplains are drawn from Methodist, Church of England, and Baptist backgrounds and are a mix of ordained and lay people. The chaplains are on hand at as many sale days as possible to build relationships and offer an all-important listening ear, and when appropriate signpost people to specialist support organisations. The chaplaincy exists because we know that it is the being beside someone, giving time, a smile, and a listening ear that can make the difference.
